clear directions needed

2009 is nearing and i'm heading towards my twenties.

if you ask if i have ever regretted my decision of going overseas, i'll have no doubts to say that i haven't. though it is a "harder path" to walk, i felt that i'm learning things and having opportunities that i could not have locally. it's a faster and quicker step to maturity. it felt as if like  you are being thrown into a huge ocean called society, you would have to learn how to act and portray yourself in the society. even the best swimmers or the people with the best capability or hardest worker may not emerge to the top. reality is so much different from textbooks and classrooms.

culture differences, politics, behind the curtains stuff are what we are exposed to when we are here. definitely there are different methods used to handle stuff that we do not really support or accept it. there maybe even times that things they do seems meaningless or we disagree to it. it just means that different peo…

beautiful nightlights

suzhou is a pretty place.
we went to shi lu to shop again and went to explore a hidden gem where it look so much like the ancient times like scenes from dramas and movies. the lights are so pretty.

initially we headed for a really nice dinner cause i was craving for something good since i haven't ate something proper.
and we've found GO-LOK-YO aka sweet sour pork. the crispy pork with the sweet sour sauce, definitely yummy. will return for more. the youtiao is also very crispy drenched with sauce. tomato and egg soup which is delicious. super satisfying meal for only 40RMB.

after that we headed to the secret gem we found. the only regrets i had was that i didn't have a proper good camera to capture the gorgeous scene.

after a whee bit of shopping, we went back home. we missed a direct bus home so we sat another bus which stops near by our home. it was raining and super cold when we walked home, it was like a 10 minute walk.

meiqing and i sang carols during xmas, 4 songs, 2 melodies. same song just with different lyrics. gosh, our throat were so sore by the second day.

we look like priest/ah piao(ghost) in the clothings which are made out of bedsheets. personally i didn't felt very christmassy. i guess this is probably the highlight of 2008's xmas.

random shots because i'm tired~

merry xmas

thanks everyone who comforted me, i felt much better. the ordeal is quite over already. haha.

these few days have been quite fun with meiqing's family coming over and stuff. its so nice to have them over, though we have only hang out for a day. i'll blog about it soon!

it's has been rather cold these few days, i do hope it would snow. cross fingers.

outing with meiqing's family

ignorance is NOT a blessing

gah, i just offended a chef. because i took milk from the kitchen and serve it to a hostess who was dining at the restaurant.  anyway, from the start, i have always felt that the chef had something against me and was never happy whenever he saw me. sometimes i felt a little unwelcomed, though it was always my sixth sense which hinted me so. i do hope it's wrong.

i felt so freaking bad when one of the colleagues told me that the chef was pissed off. seriously, i almost cried. but i swallowed my tears and apologize. i do hope my apology is sincere enough.

the reason why i am an intern is so that i could make mistakes and learn how to correct it. i hope i wouldn't feel that awkward in front of the chef tommorrow. *cross fingers*
i should really look on the "bright" side that i would be leaving F&B in another 2 weeks. so adios and hola to a new (hopefully better) beginning.

i miss driving.
and i'm so disappointed with my interim report's results.

anyway, meiqing's is at shanghai for these few days. her family have came to china visiting. they'll be coming to suzhou probably on friday or saturday.
till then, i will be stuck alone and have the freedom to mess up our room.

anyway, here's 13 rules of leadership from Colin Powell's Rules.

1. It ain't as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning

2. Get mad, then get over it.

3. Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it.

4. It can be done!

5. Be careful what you choose. You may get it.

6. Don't let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision.

7. You can't make someone else's choices. You shouldn't let someone else make yours.

8. Check small things.

9. Share credit.

10. Remain calm. Be kind.

11. Have a vision. Be demanding.

12. Don't take counsel of your fears or naysayers.

California Dreams

once bitten twice shy

i've just lost my bling phone.
i think it was pick pocketed from my coat while i was shopping.
i did not realise anything at all..

but anway, i've just bought a new phone for 870RMB.

and today, shanghai peeps went back. they have been in suzhou the past few days for touring. there were like almost 20 people coming over. super big group.

so when meiqing and i went to the train station, we stopped over to buy some roadside food. a crepe like thingy. and then,

i've got targetted again!
this old man stuck his hands into my coat's pocket, i didn't felt anything nor realise it. and i was so lucky i didn't put any stuff in it. and meiqing saw the whole thing. furthermore, there were onlookers. but the man walk away before i could react.

gosh. the hotel staff keep telling us to be really careful.

bbq with co.

company outing to this really gorgeous place which is around 45 minutes away from the hotel. i had loads of fun.

the people here bbq in the afternoon unlike in singapore. the bbq ended in the afternoon where many of us went back to work. a super long day.

at the foot of tian ping

look deep in.

and looking at the foot of tian ping,
there's a scenic view waiting for us when we climbed down the dangerous steps of the mountain.
i even seek help from strangers when i could get down a boulder.

it was close to sunset when reach the foot.

at the entrance, we were greeted by many flowers, they are still blooming during autumn.

the rock floor and the trees all blend in nicely to give a peaceful touch to the place. really very pretty.

there are also walk ways just like what we see in the shows.

and here's meiqing admiring a piece of art which costs her 5RMB

there are many people who went there to take photoshoots. we saw at least 8 couples, and this lady made us felt like we were in the olden dynasty of china.

the place was really nice. although the maple trees was not fully yellow yet, we still had fun. but i do hope to go visit there again to see the beautiful trees when the weather gets colder.

the tip of tian ping

look at our bitter faces.

we went to climb and conquer the well known tian ping shan. but we've went there a little too early because the maple trees is still green, the leaves are not yet orange. it will be once it gets colder

a ticket for RMB18, and two for RMB 15 each.

before heading to tian ping shan, we went to have our first KFC meal. it's so much different from singapore. also, we both feel that it's a kind of luxury food because a meal at normal places are priced at a quarter.

because of the unsatisfying meal, we decided to buy some snacks from the roadside stalls. of course, it's cheap and tasty yet unhealthy and definitely much dirtier.

after buying the food, i saw the uncle using his bare, dirty uncut nails, hands to do the rice cake satay. hygiene standards in china is like so.

therefore, i shall pretend i have seen nothing.

we sat 2 buses to get to tian ping shan. there is many locals going over and alot of students having BBQ and outing.

the climb was ab…

walls have ears

here's my uniform, zebra skirt and blazer with a white shirt underneath. they say that once a person wears a zebra printed skirt/pants, the person would be a manager. anyway, we're going to change uniforms soon. so i do hope that the new ones are warm, comfy and most importantly nicer. pardon the toilet bowl.

today i worked at the bar. it's busy busy busy and confusing, messy. i'd rather be busy with something to be bored to death with nothing. i did alot of hands on like service, writing order list(which is very irritating sometimes because i can't write it in english).

it's break tmr and thurs.
translating english to chinese is the toughest job ever! i'd rather do the opposite.

say guan qian lu

meiqing said that my chinese improved! and her english improved too, and it's mostly attributed to us talking in english whenever we wanted to gossip about people in front of them.

thurs and fri we had dinner with the GM. thurs we had a new loyalty manager who joined us. fri was training for the management and we had dinner at the chinese restaurant there after. the thing last from 4 - 8pm. and i was scheduled for work from 2-10pm. at the dinner was super filling and super delicious.

we went shopping at guan qian lu yesterday and seriously, it's like orchard road with affluent people walking along the roads and big names like fendi, chanel, gucci on the roads. most people wore really trendy clothes and the clothes they sell over there is super pricey.

of course, there are cheaper alternatives. we've bought 3 shoes for 150RMB, aka 30SGD. my boots alone costs 20SGD. the rest is math.

we have also tried their street stalls and bought yummy food while shopping along the stre…
